Thoughts are Things, Choose the Good Ones
~~Mike Dooley
What you focus on most, is what you receive. Most people by now have heard this message brought to the world's attention through the book and film, The Secret. Like attracts like. Positive thoughts, especially backed up by matching words, produce positive results. Negative thoughts, especially supported by matching words, produce negative results. But is this really the case? Do we really have that much power over what life brings to us?
Same circumstances, different results. Can you think of examples where two people experienced similar situations with different outcomes? For example, two people grow up in the same poverty-stricken neighborhood. One lives in despair seeing no way out and passes a life of poverty on to the next generation. The other refuses to be poor and goes on to live a successful, prosperous life.
Of course there are many factors involved, but outcomes begin in the mind. Henry Ford said it clearly,
If you think you can
or you think you can't... you're absolutely right
The book of Proverbs in the Bible says "as a man (or woman) thinks, so he (or she) becomes." There are many quotes by successful and spiritual people, even scientists, teaching us that form follows thought.
Can you think of examples of people you know, or even those from your own life, where thoughts created a self-fulfilling prophecy for what was wanted or for what was not wanted?
Keep aware of your thoughts and words. We may not have control over the circumstances in our life, but we have control over our thoughts. Think more often about what you do want and less about what you don't want, or more about possible solutions than about problems, and you will find that life has a way of working things in your favor.
